Hi everybody, it’s Dr. Craig here with Evolve Chiropractic McHenry IL 60050.
Some of the most common questions that I get are, “What is chiropractic?” and “What do chiropractors do?” These are great questions and, in this short article, I will try to answer them for you.
Chiropractors specialize in the spine, just like dentists specialize in teeth and cardiologists with the heart.
The spine has two main functions. The first thing that it does is it supports us, and it keeps us upright. The support it provides is what we call our posture. The second thing that it does is surround and protect our spinal cord.
This is important since our spinal cord is essential to just about everything that we do.
The Spinal Cord
The way that our body works from a very basic standpoint is that the brain controls all the functions of our body. It does that by communicating down through the spinal cord, out through those nerves, which hits all those vital organs and tissues.
Those organs and tissues depend on that energy or that communication pathway, to keep us alive and healthy. However, because of stresses in our life, whether those are sudden, acute, traumatic stresses, or whether they are little things, such as, sitting at an office desk, habits or routines, the individual bones of our spine can start to shift or restrict themselves. This can lead them to get out of place.
Those shifts or restrictions are referred to as subluxations. When subluxations occur, they can start to disrupt the flow of energy at the level that they occur. So, these individual bones can get subluxated, or even whole segments and curves of our spine can start to shift and get out of place.
This is an issue because it starts to disrupt that communications pathway and our nervous system.
Chiropractors specialize in detecting subluxations and in correcting subluxations. The hope and the goal is to restore that communication pathway so that you can function at 100%.
If you’re coming in here with little aches and pains or certain issues, we can start to see those diminish, and we can start to correct this long-term. That way you’re able to do things that you want to be doing, running, playing with your kids, or whatever it is that you’d like to do.
That is what we like to do here. If you’re interested, and you want to check us out, we’ll be here. See you soon. Call us: 815-271-5901
